My Tupperware Storage

Hey out there!
I hope that you guys are having a great week so far! I honestly can't believe that it is already Wednesday!
Today, I wanted to share with you guys a quick update I did this past weekend. As some of you may know, our kitchen definitely has some issues….. a floor and a few appliances that are probably more than 30 years old, dingy cabinets, and not a lot of natural light BUTTTTT one thing that we do have and that I absolutely love is our cabinet storage. We have a lot of cabinet space which I am beyond grateful for! Because we have so much storage I am able to have two shelves for my tupperware, but lately it has been nothing less than a disaster!!!!

Over the past two years it is amazing how magically all of the tupperware pieces and their lids completely disappear into some kind of black hole. I think it is the same place where socks and pens escape too.
Anyways, just take a look for yourself. It got pretty bad in there….

I decided that the only solution was to get rid of all the mismatched pieces and start fresh. I got this huge tub of varying size containers from SAMs for $19 and I am so glad that I did. It has the perfect sizes for us and what we use them for which is mainly our lunches.

So first thing first is I washed all of my new pieces…

Then, I decided to put some new shelf paper down to make the shelves a little more exciting. Seeing how dark and dingy the inside of our cabinets are just makes me so much more determined to get them painted this year.
I also added this under-the-cabinet storage that I knew would help multiply the amount of space. If you like the idea and want to get your own you can get it HERE

Then I just started filling in all of the empty space with my new containers! I am not 100% sure this is the exact layout I will stick with, but I can tell it is already so much more organized and easier to grab what I need in the morning to get lunches ready.

And that is it! It took only about 30 minutes to clean out and get a better organization plan, and it was definitely time well spent because it has really saved me time this week getting lunches ready!

Quick junk drawer organization!

Hello out there!

So, we all have one….
The drawer in the kitchen that makes you cringe every time that you open it. Come on guys please tell me I am not alone here. You know the one; every now and then you try to open it, but since you have stuffed it full something gets lodged back there and is stuck so you can't even open the drawer!!!

So, my drawer was stashed full of utensils and was so dis-organized that it made me cringe when I opened it everyday to cook.

Because I love you I will give you a peek at what it looked like….

I saw this utensil holder on clearance at HomeGoods and I had an idea….

Here is the difference that this $5.00 utensil holder made...

The same amount of things, but it is amazing what a little organization will help do. I put the utensils that I use most often where they are easy to get to.
This is just one idea on how to organize your drawer of secrets as I like to call it. The one that always gets stuffed with crap and is a little embarrassing if someone were to decide to open it.

Here are some great options for drawer organizers that I have found in case you want to work on our own!

These are great because you can completely customize storage for all of your drawers if you wanted to. They aren't too expensive either with is always great! You can find them HERE

This option is great for true catch all drawers; and it can definitely maximize storage in the smallest of drawers! You can find it HERE
If you like the idea of a flatware organizer like I used this is a good option, too! I love that it is bronze! You can find it HERE

Since I made this change a few months ago I have loved it! I seriously open this drawer multiple times a day, and I am so happy with it!
So, dive in and get that drawer organized!!!!

My closet...errr office update!

Hey everyone!

Today I want to share my little closet/office makeover! In our three bedroom house we have turned the smallest bedroom into a home office/small gym. In one corner we have our cycling bike and small exercise equipment area that we added not too long ago. You can see that post HERE. In the opposite corner we have our computer desk set up where Justin mainly sits; it has our printer and file cabinet over there as well.
So when we were moving in and figuring out what we were going to put where I had a big dream of an amazing craft room... I know that I am not alone out there! Realistically speaking I knew this was going to have to remain a dream and with the help from my mom and some inspiration from Jen at IHeart Organizing We made a plan to turn the closet in our third bedroom into a space for me!

Here is what the closet looked like when we first moved in...

So, this room is where we keep our Alabama décor, so naturally my first thought was to make my little closet fit with the rest of the room. Here is what we started with....

I love my alma mater, but I have been itching for a change. I wanted to bring in some fun colors, and make my space a little bit more glamorous! Take a look at what it looks like now...

My wonderful glass desk is actually a console table that my mom spotted at an estate sale we went to right after we bought our house back in 2011. She had the vision that it would be the perfect size desk for my closet, and like always she was right! I love having a glass table because it makes the area feel even more open and not so cramped, but to top it off it was only $10!

My mom also helped me figure out a smart way to store my fabric because I have a TON! I got this sweater organizer for all of it, and it works perfect!

Since this is a closet, lighting isn't exactly perfect. I have needed a lamp in here for a while, and I decided on this LED bankers lamp from Home Depot. I really love it, and it is the perfect size.

I got this antique brass tray and bumblebee dish this past weekend when I went antiquing in Tennessee! The flower arrangement is from TARGET, and my diffuser is from Marshalls.

I got this cute little journal as a gift, and I just love it!

My bulletin board is really a square canvas covered in a gold polka dot napkin. At Christmas time I saw a set of gold polka dot napkins at Marshalls, but I decided that I didn't really need them. Well, I went back a few weeks ago and now in March they were on clearance! YAY! So, I took one of them and covered my canvas with it using spray adhesive...

I made the three pictures with an app that I love and use all of the time called Rhonna Designs. I use this app a lot with my blog and Instagram pictures. I just love all three of them, and lets face it we all need to know that there will be miracles!

I also got these vintage postcards while we were antiquing in Tennessee. What is so neat about them is they are all places that I have traveled to. I love how vibrant the colors are!

I have little things in these drawers like label holders, paper clips, a mini stapler, tape, etc. I didn't really know what to put on the labels, so I decided to put 4 of my favorite bible verses just for fun!

For the shelf above the closet I got these photoboxes for $1 each a few years ago at Michaels. I have always used them in here, but I revamped the labels and I love the way they turned out!

Here is one last look at the finished product! I hope that you like the change!

Spicing things up at the Stiles house!

Hey friends!
Today we are going to talk about spices!!! Exciting huh?

It all starts back in Fall of 2011 when Justin and I were clueless little fiancés registering for our wedding. We wandered around Bed Bath and Beyond completely clueless going trigger happy with the little laser gun.
We both lived with our parents before we got married and always had roommates in college so we were really starting from scratch and had to get everything to fill our home.
I knew that I wanted something to keep my spices in because I really like to cook. I didn't want to just have a cabinet that I kept them all stuffed in.
So, we registered for this beauty.....

It is cool right? Well fast forward to 2014, and feel my growing hatred for it. It is ALWAYS dusty; even right after you clean it, and it takes up SO much counter space which is the worst thing about it because I cannot stand things sitting on the counter. So I knew I needed to make a big change...

So, I started talking to my co-workers about this "problem" that I have, and my boss immediately came to my rescue. She is a huge Costco fan and knew exactly what I needed. She found this awesome magnetic spice stand with 12 of the magnetic canisters on it for $15 at Costco! We looked up what the actual retail price was and found out stores like Bed Bath and Beyond sells the same thing for $39.99
Well, off we went to Costco to search for it, but of course our Costco was sold out AND every Costco in the state of Alabama. Apparently everyone else thought of this genius idea the exact same time we did. I was super bummed and decided I needed to come up with a new plan. My boss later told me that she called Bed Bath and Beyond and told them Costco was offering the same product for $15 and they told her they would sell it to her for the same price! So, off we went to Bed Bath and Beyond and what do you know it wasn't in stock in the store, but they shipped it to us for free and in the end I got what I needed for $25 less than the sticker price!!! AND it comes with a 5 year free, unlimited supply of spices! My boss is awesome! Take that Bed Bath and Beyond!

I had a vision in my head of what I wanted to do with my spices canisters and I was just hoping my vision would be what I though it would. I knew that I didn't want to use the awesome magnetic stand which is a little wasteful, but that would defeat the purpose of me getting rid of one thing on my countertop and just replacing it with another. So, I knew that I wanted to make the canisters pretty by adding some color and pretty labels. So I grabbed some scrap book paper and got to work...

I started by taking off the lid of one canister and traced 12 circles....

Then, I cut each one out and attached it to the lids by using double sided tape that way it isn't a permanent thing in case I change my mind down the road...

I bought these round labels from Target to put on top of the scrapbook paper to make my labels. You can print on them, but I decided to write on them instead

Here is what it looked like when I stuck them on the scrapbook paper. They are the perfect size because I wanted some of the pretty paper to show !

Then, I started writing each spice name on the labels. The spice tree that I had before had 16 spices in it, but I only have 12 canisters. It was easy though, because honestly I didn't even use about half of the spices in the spice tree. I picked the ones I use the most often and started making my labels...

I knew that I wanted to put the canisters on the side of my fridge so they were nice and out of the way, but I can still see them when I want and they aren't too hidden!
Here is the final product...

A peek into our refrigerator!

Hey guys! It has been a while since I have updated, but I have still been busy with some projects around the house! We had a three day Snow Day last week in North Alabama, and since I was stuck in the house I got some things done that I only dreamed about because I thought I wouldn't have time!
I am very happy to be back in a normal routine though; back to work and normal life!

So, today I want to give you guys a little peek into our fridge! It is like when MTV's Cribs comes to your house; I mean you always have to show off the fridge right???
One promise that you guys have to make me before we proceed though.... PLEASE do not let your eye drift down to the old, vinyl flooring we have in our kitchen! It is a huge eye sore, and on our list of things to hopefully change soon!

Now that we have gone over the one rule, let's take a peek....

My first piece of advice to make your life easier are the vinyl placemats that I have on my shelves. I got them on clearance at Target for 99 cents each, and it makes cleaning the fridge a ton easier! Just take them out and wipe them down!

I love my little egg holder that I got from Marshalls for a few bucks! Sometimes it isn't quite as practical because I buy a dozen eggs, but I just can't give it up!
The door of our fridge is pretty full with salad dressings and other things, but I really can't part with any of it because we like to cook so many different things!

So my absolute favorite part of my fridge is my shelf of containers with handles! I got them when mom and I went to The Container Store in Atlanta last summer. They are $3.99 each and it makes my food organization life so much better!
They have this size and larger at the Container Store; HERE you go!

We have one container with our lunch meats, turkey pepperoni and turkey hot dogs!

One is totally dedicated to our cheese.....we love cheese and we aren't embarrassed!

Another obsession we have is yogurt. This one is dedicated to Justin's yogurt for breakfast and pudding snacks haha.

Here is my yogurt container!!

This large basket resides on our bottom shelf. There used to be a drawer here, but it was tiny and took up WAY too much room for the poor excuse of storage that it was. I have had this basket forever, but I think that I got it at The Dollar Store back in college. It holds SO much; our bags of shredded cheese, tomatoes, sliced fruit, dips, and salsa.

One of our bottom drawers is where we keep Justin's Gatorade and Propel. Before we made some organization changes we didn't have any space for these in the fridge so we never had any cold ones. Yay for the small things in life...cold Gatorade!

The top shelf is where we keep things that don't really have a for sure home, but it is usually pretty open and sparse. We keep our milk, tea, and coffee creamer on the bottom shelf. When we have leftovers from meals we make they go in Tupperware and in the bottom right hand drawer.

So, there you have it. It is far from perfect, but since we don't have a nice upgraded fridge yet we are making it work for us. Of course it is easier because we are only a family of two and don't require as much food as larger families, and we have found what works for us.
  • Baskets are your friend! I thought that having baskets would make it feel too cramped and take up too much space, but I have found out that I am able to maximize my space because they fit so much! I would also take it further and say that clear baskets are the best because you can see everything that you have and when you can see it you will be more likely to eat it before it expires or goes bad.
  • Simplicity is key. I have learned that we just don't have the space to buy a ton of groceries and "stock up." I only go shopping once a week to the grocery store, and I get what we need for the week and not much more. If we had more space and a deep freezer it would be different, but it is science; the more stuff you have the harder it is to organize.
  • Your most used items should take priority. It makes life a lot easier to have the items you use every day easily accessible. Give those items the front row space, and make sure they are easiest to reach in your baskets.

I wanted to put together a few of my dream items that would make any fridge fabulous, and hopefully one day when we upgrade to a larger and more spacious one I will make it happen!

These beauties are my dream product!!! I love everything about them; they add fun patterns and colors, but they are also very easy to maintain and clean.  When we get a fridge upgrade, these will definitely reside in my house!!!

2.  Organization

Every item has it's perfect place. That is what I want in my next fridge. I want to be able to have the best baskets, bins, and storage (oh my!)
HERE is where you can find all of these beautiful options to customize your own fridge!

I really like these deep wire baskets that would be great for any fridge or freezer. They allow you to hold a lot of items with out having to stack them vertically and you can still see everything you need.
You can find them HERE
THESE great stackable bins would be perfect for produce, cheeses, or many other things!

I absolutely love these shallow and see through baskets! They would be VERY useful and great for organizing juice boxes, bottles, cans, or all different things. And the price is great as well! You can find them HERE

3. Pretties

Your fridge is something that you use and open multiple times a day so why would you not want to make it pretty right?!?

I have always loved berry baskets, but since we are strapped on space I realistically can't have them right now. I love that I found this melamine option because it will be so easy to clean. They are also super bright and affordable! You can find them HERE

Since my egg container only holds 6 eggs, naturally I will have to upgrade when I get a bigger fridge! I love this option by Rachael Ray. I love the color, but I will probably end up getting one in white. You can find it HERE

I am a sucker for food containers. BIG sucker!!! I have one requirement: They have to be clear so I can see what is inside! These are a little pricey, but investing in a few of these beautiful pieces would make me super happy! Head over to ANTHROPOLOGIE where you can get some!

This ended up being a very long and detailed post about refrigerator organization!!! Can you tell that I am ready for a new, spacious fridge!?!
